Why can I not access itunes by mouse?

Hi,

I have a Windows 10 PC (upgraded from XP in Windows freebie push), 64-bit laptop with oodles of memory etc.

Up until a few months ago, itunes worked ok but then... an update failed, then everything failed, then nothing would install... so I uninstalled everything entirely and rolled back to some debug itunes... then I uninstalled again, uninstalled Bonjour, uninstalled everything with Apple beside its name and started again...

It worked... sort of... I now have access to itunes store, my library etc.

BUT...

At seemingly random, and irritatingly frequent intervals, everything seems to just hang... or, rather... it swaps itself so that I cannot click on the app at all to see whether or not it is hanging... Task manager shows it as running ok, but it won't even minimise.

Once, I saw a dialogue in the background, but I could only see it by mouse-over itunes on the task bar - it was impossible to reach by clicking on it as moving the mouse in that direction resulted in it hiding itself at the back again...

So...

I don't know whether the programme has bricked itself or if the programme has fired up some invisible dialogue that I can't reach but, essentially, if I want to change the track I am listening to, I need to RESTART my entire PC as killing iTunes in Task Manager is not enough to get it to restart.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Right-click on the setup file and run the installer as administrator (this behaves differently even if yours is an admin account). In some cases you may also need to disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus software while installing.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
