Colors distorted after sleep (macOS Sierra)
Hi all,
I'm currently on macOS Sierra (10.12.2 bèta (16C41b)) on a Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) even though I've opted out of the bèta program, but that isn't the issue here
Whenever I open my l laptop and get out of 'standby mode' my colors are distorted. There are pink/purple lines all over my screen. It is not a hardware issue I believe, because when I scroll the distorted colours move along with it. I'll try and make a picture of it but it dissappears most of the time after 5-10 seconds.
Anyone else having this issue and/or knows how to resolve this?
Kind regards,
Robin.
Even though you have opted out of the beta program, you will find that the version of mac OS on your computer is still the beta one until there is a new update of the standard shipping version which will overwrite the beta version that you have.
EG if you had a beta version of 10.12.0, after opting out of the beta program, the update for 10.12.1 should bring you back to a standard version. Unfortunately for you, that would mean either waiting for a new mac OS update such as a 10.12.2 or reinstalling Mac OS.
Doing a refresh of the operating system (reinstalling mac OS but still keeping the files, so jump the wipe hard disk step here- How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support) didn't work for me when I tried it last year to get back to a standard version of EL Capitan, so think the only certain way to get back to a shipping version of Mac OS is to reinstall it completely. However that will wipe everything, so unless you have everything in iCloud, then it can be a bit of a pain copying files to a portable hard drive and the copying them back again to the computer. See here for more on that- How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support
Before you do anything drastic, try going into display preferences > colour and changing the colour profile from 'colour LCD' to SRGB, they display exactly the same colours as the MacBook pro uses the SRGB colour space natively so you wont see a difference there, though there is a small chance that switching to SRGB will fix the issue. Anyway, worth a try before doing anything more drastic.
I hope this helps!
I have almost simuler problem of color distortion. The screen when shuting down the Imac, a distorted look appears as if scrambled picture but in colors. It doesn't happen all the time. Only in shut down. Now its' starting to lag when browsing in internet. Plus openning up certain windows , it shows part of data. Have to close window screen and reopen to see all data. I've calibrated the colors and brightness still same problem. I'm thinking I may have a bad graphics or hard drive. I don't know if we can replace graphics card if there is one to replace.
Yep, that's what I thought (wait for the update, and the next update), now I'm on 10.12.2 and after almost every waking up my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) I have to change the color profile to fix the reduced colors. I guess I'll be waiting for what a 10.12.3 might bring.
Is this similar to what you are experiencing? I'm having this happen and trying to get to the root of the problem also.
I have the exact same issue. Mines the MacBook Pro 2015 Model. It happens when I wake the laptop up after closing it for a while. It goes away after time or I repeatedly open and close it.
Have you figured out why it happens?
Sounds exactly like mine. I still have not found out anything.
Do you have your display set to scaled for "more space"? So far, this has been a problem for me on every version of Sierra. It was never an issues with Capitan.
Yes, I do have the display scaled to more space!
Therein lies the problem. There's something in the Sierra graphics drivers. Some have theorized that Sierra loads the resolution settings later than Capitan does and that creates a problem. Hopefully, at some point Apple gets around to addressing it.
I had the same issue as well after upgrading to Sierra and my configuration is the same as yours. I had so far done a fresh reinstall to no avail. The Mac was working fine one El Capitan and all this happen after Sierra.
Apple please fixed it... it is really irritating to see the distorted image every time I recover from sleep!
I do experiencing this wired color fading (artistic color kind of) problem sometimes after screen wakes up! Mine is early 2015 Macbook Pro. The moment I noticed this problem a couple of months before, I immediately googled to see if anyone reports this problem. No one reported the same problem few months before. Now, I am seeing quite a few folks experiencing this problem.
As everyone commonly stated, this problem start surfacing only in Sierra. I have also started noticing this problem after migrated to Sierra. Also, the problem still comes even after I unselect "Automatically adjust brightness" in Display preferences.
I guess there was a fix related to this color distortion issue has been released as part of the current Sierra version 10.12.3. However, the fix didn't address this color distortion completely as I am still facing it even after migrated to the latest version!
This sounds pretty much like a software issue rather than a hardware issue. Waiting to know the root cause of this issue.
I can't believe we are still discussing this. I have this problem for over a year now, rolling over 3 major releases of Mac OS X until current Sierra. Yes, I had to use Migration Assistant to migrate my data, I don't want to re-install OS all the time, case even Windows handles migration well now.
Apple, please, fix my issue with distracted colours on login window!
BTW, when I made a screenshot of login screen and look at resulting file under my login - I seen distractions. Something to do with default colour profile (???) which is applied to login?
Same problem her i thik it happens when i use opera browser ¿does any one uses opera browser?
According to this article : macOS Sierra: Adjust your display’s resolution
Depending on how you adjust the resolution, some app windows may not fit entirely on the screen. Using a scaled resolution may affect performance.
