how do i stop my macbook from using dedicated g...

I have a MacBook Pro Retina (mid/late 12?) which was recently recalled due to problems with the graphics card. 

Well my graphics card only started causing problems about a month or two after the recall ended and then I went away with work for a few months. I can’t use my laptop when it switches to dedicated graphics because it just shuts down but it’ll work perfectly fine with the integrated card. I’ve tried using the graphics switcher app but it’s pretty unreliable and can just turn the laptop off when I’m using it. 

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I know it’s pretty old but it was the most reliable little workhorse ive ever had and it had never failed me before.
