My macbook pro has been happily running Sierra for some time. Everytime I go to settings though I get taken to the Two-Factor authentication page (due to the notification), so I decided to turn it on today but after following prompts, entering a new password and the verification code sent to my phone the OS did not want to save my settings. It prompted me for icloud password to do so but just sat there doing nothing.

So I turned off 2FA on my Apple ID via web browser. After the machine locked, I was unable to log back in so I rebooted. Tried my old and new passwords, no joy. Tried "if you forgot..." option on the login screen. The MBP rebooted and I was able to enter my Apple ID and file vault was unlocked(or whatever it said) and was directed to reboot again and use my password. Still cannot log in to my machine. Tried turning 2FA back on again and repeat forgot password step at login again, still no good.

Extremely frustrating, especially given I'm very careful with passwords :-s
