Cannot delete image in Messages

OS: OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on MacBook Pro 16GB

In Messages (on OS X), I am unable to delete images sent as part of the message conversation.

Repro:

1. Open Messages, choose a conversation.

2. Click the "Details" button at the top-left of the Messages window.

3. A pop-up appears with thumbnails of images/photos sent as part of the conversation.

4. Right-click on one of the images, and choose "Delete..."

5. Select "Delete" from the conformation dialog.

6. Nothing happens.

The image/photo is NOT deleted. It doesn't disappear from the pop-up. Closing the pop-up or Messages and re-opening doesn't make any difference. I've waited a week, and nothing was deleted.

Anyone else seen this? Any ideas on how to solve? Or is this YAYB (Yet Another Yosemite Bug)?

Hi,

I have tried this two ways.

Find a pic in the chat.

Highlight it.

Press Backspace/Delete key

Message/alert about deleting this "message" and it will delete just the pic.

Also your Method of going to the Chat then the Details option top right selecting a Pic and right clicking and the selecting Delete.

The alert/message/confirmation dialogue was slightly different in that it said did I want to delete the Attachment.

I would check you have Read and Write permissions and Ownership on the Attachments folder.

 Mac OS X (10.6.8),

Yes, I just noticed this now too. Definitely can not delete images from the Details preview like in iOS 8. I right-click the image, get an "Open" or "Delete" option, after selecting "Delete" a message window asking to confirm if I want to delete the "Attachment" and doing so will be permanent. I continue with the delete, and nothing. Image preview is still in the Details window. I go to the Attachments folder within the Messages folder in my Library and the image is still there. I checked that I have Read/Write permissions which I do. Just to be safe, I apply it to all enclosed folders as well. I try again and nothing happens.

The only way I was able to delete an image was to find it in the thread, go back to the Details pane and do everything as normal. After proceeding to confirm the  deletion when prompted, boom, the image disappears both from the Thread and the Details pane.

I definitely think this is a Yosemite bug. If Details is supposed to function like it does in iOS 8, it is definitely not. I hope there'll be a patch for this soon.

While I have people's attention, I'd also like to request that the ability to Quicklook URLs in a thread be brought back. That was a great way to see if I wanted to bother visiting a site sent in a message thread. Now, you must open it in Safari.

Hi,

Start here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html  (this is the right page because if you strip away the iChat ending to the URL and choose Messages from the Feedback page you end up here).

That's not to say the page couldn't do with a major upgrade to add all the Messages versions  (which would then highlight the Messages 8 being in Mavericks and Yosemite - which are in fact different).

Enter all the info asked for in the boxes in the free text field area.

I notice this still is not fixed. If you close iMessage and reopen it, it does disappear from the details. Why is this still not fixed?
