Apple TV 4th Generation apps not working

For several weeks the ESPN app on my 4th Gen Apple TV has not worked. It launches but shows only a blurred background image, although I get sound. There is no menu, and it sometimes takes a dozen or more clicks on the menu button to return to the main screen. I've deleted and reinstalled the app several times, restarted the Apple TV three times, power cycled it twice, and done a reset twice. No joy ... it even still shows the same blurry background image.

 

I called ESPN and they had me go through all the steps I'd already gone through. Otherwise, they had no clue. Because my other channels seemed to be working, I thought it was just ESPN.

 

Then I launched the Velocity app. I got signed in and watched a full episode of one of the shows. But when I tried to return to the main Velocity screen, I get just the top menu. When I select most menu items, I get only a gray screen with a spinning wheel. The exception is when I go into the Settings menu. There, I can select any of the sub-settings, but nothing activates when I click on it.

 

This now seems to be an Apple TV problem, not an app problem.

 

I have never had this problem with my 3rd gen Apple TV units.

 

Any suggestions on how to clear this issue?



If that happened to me, I would try restoring the Apple TV.  This sounds fairly drastic, but you've already done all the good steps that might precede such an action.

 

Restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support



I tried that, too. Perhaps it's time to try it again. Thanks.
