MacOS Sierra command N not working

Hey

I just downloaded the new MacOs Sierra (version 10.12) for my Mac book pro. Since it has restarted, the "command N" function to open a new page does not work. Instead this "command N" function now opens a NEW TAB. So does "command T" which always opened a new tab. So now is there a new function to open a new window or has that been replaced with the new update?

Check your Finder preferences and see if "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows" is enabled.

It is.

I read how to open a new window in Sierra "Alt, Command, N" now. I'm assuming with the new update Apple changed the key commands for opening a new window in Safari.

I noticed the same thing after I installed Sierra, and it has been driving me crazy. I use safari full-screen most of the time and rely on [command-n] to open a new window full-screen for me. After much head-scratching and internet-searching and playing around, I've discovered this is a new "feature" rather than a bug. There are two scenarios:

 When a safari window is open full-screen, opening a new full-screen window is now [command-option-n].

 When a safari window is open but *not* full-screen, opening a new window is still [command-n].

If you open both types of windows, you can watch the shortcuts change in the "File" menu.

So, just found this answer after posting my response:

"Dock System Preferences. Set it to prefer tabs when opening Documents to Manually."

This actually changes the behavior back to what it was before.

That solved my problem
