What will happen if i update a IPad 2 with iOS 11?

I was thinking about buying an ipad 2. But I read that the iOS 10 did not work on it. What does that mean? Can I not upgrade it to iOS 11, and what will happen if I try? 

You won't get far. The update will check eligibility of your device with iOS 11 and when it does not pass this initial check (it will NOT pass), no update will be downloaded nor applied.

The highest iOS version possible on the iPad 2nd Gen is iOS 9.3.5

Forget purchasing an iPad 2.

It's a 6, soon to be 7 year old iDevice that will be going obsolete soon with the current release of iOS 11 which ends ALL support for older 32-bit hardware iDevices and 32-bit apps!

Look at 1st gen iPad Air models or new/newer.
