Macbook pro Mid 2012 Kernel Panic

Can anyone read and understand what this kernel panic means? Or is there a website or a guide on how to understand these? My macbook pro restarted multiple times before actually allowing me to log in.

Most kernel panic events are caused by hardware, and that Mac is affected by at least two unsupported hardware modifications. Specifically, an unsupported memory configuration and a notoriously problematic SSD. Unsupported configurations will result in unpredictable performance.

Revert those hardware modifications to a supported configuration, and determine if the KP events subside.

Could you please post the entire kernel panic report?

Kernel Panic reports: Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder -> /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

<https://support.apple.com/kb/ht2546>

<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200553>

The panic report should have "panic" in the file name.

If there is more than 1, could you please post a couple.  That will tell us if each panic is the same, or if the cause seems to move.  That will help identify if it is software or hardware.

I think you have 3rd party RAM

0x434D5341384758334D314131363030433131 --> CMSA8GX3M1A1600C11

Corsair Apple Certified 8 GB DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop ...

I'm not saying the RAM is at fault, but 3rd party RAM has been known to be at the heart of more than a few kernel panics.

How long have you owned this RAM?

And again, this is one of the situations where seeing multiple complete kernel panic reports helps identify if it is maybe RAM.

Diagnosing kernel panics from a distance is a bit of hand waving and magic, but sometimes we guess right

Here is one that happened right before the original one I posted.

I have been troubleshooting my issue for a few weeks now, and I had actually just bought this RAM yesterday (Thursday) and installed it then. I have put my original Apple RAM back into my computer and I still had issues with my computer.

Smart.  You have done 2 things.  You observed the error with 2 different RAM sets, so you can eliminate RAM from the potential problems, and you told us, so we will stop speculating about 3rd party RAM.

Have you tried Safe mode?

<https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564>

This will not load any 3rd party additions, it will load some more conservative Apple drivers (may cause screen flicker), and it will clear some kernel caches (a cache is saved data in a form that can speed up a program, but is totally redundant to the original source, and thus can be safely cleared).  Booting into Safe mode is just an experiment, but can often times eliminate any 3rd party interference, or a cached item out-of-sync with the world.

You have 3 kernel extensions, which safe mode should not load

com.valvesoftware.SteamInput 3083.39.62

com.epson.driver.EPSONProjectorAudio 1.40

com.malwarebytes.mbam.rtprotection 3.0.2

None of the above have a history of causing kernel panics, but it would be good to know they have been eliminated.

Do you know if the other kernel panics are also in the file system kernel extensions?

         com.apple.filesystems.hfs.kext(366.70.1)

            dependency: com.apple.filesystems.hfs.encodings.kext(1)

         com.apple.AppleFSCompression.AppleFSCompressionTypeZlib(1.0)

That could indicate an issue with something related to the file system, or storage?

It appears you have a 3rd party SSD

Serial ATA Device: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB, 500.11 GB

If you are always seeing the panic in the file system kernel extensions, this could indicate a problem with the SSD.

I'm not picking on the Samsung 840, as I have the 1TB 840 installed on my iMac (and mine has been working well for more than 2 years).

But any changes made to your Mac can be suspect.

There have been more than a few Macbook storage issues caused by a failing internal SATA cable.  You have had to play with that cable to install the SSD, so that is also a possibility you might want to look into.

Please post the EtreCheck output as a "Reply" to this thread

<https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174> or <https://etrecheck.com>

Use the EtreCheck "Share" button to "Copy Report" (See the image below)

And then Paste in a "Reply" to this thread.

ALSO, in the EtreCheck report, when it describes your storage, there will be a button to [Show SMART report].  Can you please click on the Show SMART report button, and post that as well.

Maybe the SMART report will tell us something about the Samsung SSD.

Also if the SMART report is clean, but all the panics are file system related, then maybe it is the internal SATA cable.

Here is the report:
