I need a watch that will work well for swimming...

I need a watch that will work well for swimming in open water (the ocean), all the reviews I have seen for the apple watch 2 have been about pool swimming. Has anyone here used it in open salt water ? I have been very disappointed with the Polar V800 and had to send it back, there was a charging problem. I simply want to know the distance I have travelled and the time it took.....nothing fancy. I have an i phone and a mac and like the look of the watch but it must work in open salt water. Thank you

Apple Watch Series 2 models can be worn when shallow water swimming, including in the ocean.


Workouts can be recorded via the built-in Workout app by selecting the Open Water Swim activity type, which includes using the built-in GPS to include a route map within the workout summary:



Note that leather and stainless steel bands are not water resistant, so should not be worn in the ocean.

 

After wearing Apple Watch Series 2 in the ocean, be sure to clean it by gently rinsing it with warm tap water. The watch and band should be dried using a soft, lint-free cloth.

 

Apple advises cleaning your Apple Watch if it comes into contact with substances that may cause damage, including sand.

I have taken my Series 2 Apple Watch with a Milanese Loop in the Pacific Ocean on two different week-long vacations where I spent quite a bit of time in the ocean or in lakes & rivers.  I had no problems whatsoever.  I read somewhere that you're not supposed to use the stainless steel milanese loop in the ocean, but mine is no worse for it.
