My apple pencil is not working

My two weeks old apple pencil stopped working suddenly while I was using it, the battery was charged (I checked) I tried all the quick fixes (disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting the iPad, etc.) it gave me some trouble on the reconnecting, initially it didn't want to connect but eventually it did, but it's still not working.  (The ipad is only a month old).  Any clues as to what could be wrong?
