MPB Freezes, then reboots

My MacBook Pro has developed a bad habit over the last couple of weeks: I will get a message that the USB external hard drives have been improperly disconnected, then about 20 seconds later, the keyboard and trackpad stop responding, then the computer will reboot. This happens independent of any application running, or complex operation. It can happen if I am not even at the computer. It happens about once a day, at random times.

 

I am running current version of Sierra, and all software is up to date.

 

I'm not even sure where to begin troubleshooting.

 

Ideas?
