ipad 2 just going back to start screen

Since updating the apps on my ipad 2 I can no longer get anything to work. As soon as the app opens it stays that was for about 30 seconds then the screen goes black and comes back on with the start screen. I am not the only person struggling with this as my daughters does the same thing has anyone got any ideas

Have you tried restoring it?
