files not showing in finder

Put 8 MP4 files onto an external hard drive on my PC. Plugged the hard drive into the iMac and whilst all my other files showed up and the folder those 8 files were in showed up, nothing IN the folder showed up, which was just those 8 files. Plugged it back into my PC and they were there again. Why didn't they show on the Mac? 

Likely it is due to the method the EHD if formatted. What is the file format for the EHD?
