Can you help me with the Migration Assistant?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro. I tried to migrate my old MacBook pro's information to my new one, but I couldn't do it at home as was told I had to go into an Apple store for further help. I spent about 20 hours trying to troubleshoot, all wasted.
