Unable to deselect "Manually manage music and v...

I just bought an iPad Pro and had restored an iTunes backup that had been stored on a netbook. Now I'm trying to enable wifi sync and I notice that I am unable to sync the iPad wirelessly with my MacBook Pro (2012). I am able to sync with my iPhone 7 wirelessly and I notice the settings for the iPhone has the Manually manage music and videos box unchecked.

When I try to uncheck this box for the iPad and click apply it promptly rechecks it, I've tried rebooting, hard reboot, but nothing will let me keep Manually manage music and videos unchecked.

What could be causing this issue? I'm loath to restore my iPad to factory conditions because the last time it took forever for my keyboard shortcuts to sync with it.

Anyone have any advice?

What iOS version is on the iPad?

What MacOS version on the MacBook?

What iTunes version on the MacBook (not just "the latest")?

Can you successfully connect the iPad to iTunes on the computer?
