Auto numbering of tv episodes on devices

I’m having an issue with the numbering of tv episodes that I’ve purchased on iTunes on my devices. Apples has each season split into volumes and the episodes numbered 1-13. The issue comes as it they’d are compiled under the Season for example under Season 4 there are 4 volumes to purchase each with 13 episodes. On my iPad I only have one season 4 but I have teo or more episodes that are labelled 1,2,3 etc.  It makes it impossible to watch episodes in order without having a guide of some sort. This has happened for multiple seasons and tv shows.
