Cannot type apostrophe on iPad using keyboard case

Since a recent update (IOS 10.2.1), I cannot type an apostrophe (') on iPad any more using my Logitech Type+ for iPad Air 2 keyboard. The keyboard has worked perfectly fine for the last year I've had it, so I'm pretty sure it's an Apple update which has caused this problem.

I can, however, type the apostrophe if I press "caps lock" and then press the apostrophe key. I then have to press caps lock a second time to turn it off before resuming typing.

The double quotes sign " is unaffected.

Is there a fix for this? Or even a reason why Apple decided to change the apostrophe key?

Okay, I have now found the true source of the problem and the true fix for this.

I have an Ancient Greek keyboard installed on my iPad. When the apostrophe stops working, all I need to do on my keyboard is press the "keyboard symbol" (the button above the number 5 with a picture of a keyboard on it) and the regular iPad keyboard appears on screen, showing Ancient Greek characters. I then need to switch from the Ancient Greek characters to the default Latin characters (and I can then close the iPad screen keyboard and return to the bluetooth keyboard). Then, and only then, does the apostrophe start working again.

Contrary to what I assumed before, toggling the Caps Lock key does not actually bring back my apostrophe.

Just as I've finished typing this question, my apostrophe key has started working again. That's really strange; it was definitely not working just a few minutes ago as I was testing it out. I guess it must have been resolved? Maybe pressing Caps Lock a few times makes it revert back to normal?

I've (look, apostrophe!) been having this issue with my Zagg keyboard case, but it's (woohoo!) been weirdly intermittent.

However, I think I've just got to the bottom of it - for me anyway...

It's the google keyboard.

Even though the onscreen keyboard vanishes when I turn on the bluetooth one, there's still some strange interaction.

I can replicate this reliably.

TO BREAK IT

1. Turn off BT keyboard

2. Change to google keyboard

3. Turn on BT keyboard

4. Apostrophies broken

TO FIX IT

1. Turn off BT keyboard

2. Change to UK British Keyboard

3. Turn on BT keyboard

4. Apostrophies fixed

Thanks, had the same issue. Turning off Google keyboard solved it.

I found out that I had to manually select English keyboard instead of automatic to fix this problem.

While I don't have the same Greek keyboard installed, I do have the Bitmoji keyboard installed and found that by disconnecting the Smart Keyboard and switching to onscreen keyboard and then back to the Smart Keyboard accomplishes the thing. Thanks for the insight.

FYI if Gboard is causing this problem you don't need to turn it off completely. Use ctrl+space to bring up the keyboard selector and select the default Apple keyboard. It's an annoying workaround because you'll have to switch back to Gboard when you're not using the Bluetooth keyboard, but probably less annoying than turning it off and on.

Ive tried this   Doesnt work.

Ok, so I found a fix (at least for me) based off this Logitech Support thread:

https://community.logitech.com/s/question/0D53100005wBIfUCAW/apostrophe-key-func tioning-only-50-on-create-for-ipad-pro-97

Changed the setting in General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboard > English

It was set to "Automatic," and I changed it to "US."  That did the trick!

I had the same problem, associated with Google's Gboard. When I switched back to the Apple Keyboard, it worked fine. Switching the Hardware Keyboard setting to US instead of Automatic made it work perfectly.

I love it when the internet comes together to solve some annoying problem I'm having.

By the way, I was using the Create Keyboard for iPad Pro. But the problem seems to affect multiple Logitech keyboards. Problem solved.

Ive also tried and doesn't work. If it doesn't recognize that it needs an apostrophe then it wont put it. You can see my Ive and wont doesn't have one but doesn't does. Someone please help, I'm a teacher and this doesnt look good!

I had the same problem and I have the fix. Go to settings on your iPad,  then Keyboard hardware, then English, change from automatic to U.S..   Problem solved!!! Hope this works for you!

My hardware keyboard menu has only "auto-capitalization

auto-correction

and "." shortcut

Ive figured out a solution. If you have disabled the built in keyboard re enabling it will bring back that language option in hardware keyboard!
