iCloud email is jammed

My iCloud email account jammed suddenly but only on my macbook air and iMac. I can access the accounts on my iPhone and iPad.  There is a spinning circle when I try to access the mail application. I have tried to delete the mail account and add it back but can not get this to work.  I have made sure the IOS is up to date. Has anyone had this happen?  I have a MacBook Air mid 2013 with OS X El Capitan. Version 10.11.6 Thanks!!!
