magic mouse not found on boot

Lately on a cold boot my iMac doesn't find the mouse. On a second boot it does.

This started occurring after the last MacOS update, and happens on both my and my wife's iMacs. Hers is much newer (mid-2016).

this doesn't happen every time but seems to be becoming more frequent.

Any suggestions?
