Saving personal data in iPad Apps

As part of trouble shooting an iPadPro camera issue, it was recommended that I Reset>Erase All Content from the iPadPro (after saving a Backup on both my iMac and iCloud Drive).  The purpose of erasing is to determine whether the camera issue is related to software or hardware.  If the same problem occurs after the Reset>Erase All Content, it will indicate that the problem is with hardware, and AppleCare should take care of it.

I followed the instructions, confident that having a Backup would save everything important. What I didn't realize was that the Erase All Content would remove ALL my personal data in Apps. I lost my yoga practice, my Paper 53 drawings, and content in all other apps.  Because saving personal data is more important than the camera issue right now, I have restored from Backup.

Before I try trouble shooting again, I want to know how/where can I save all personal settings & content in applications BEFORE I do a Reset>Erase All Content?

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

iPadPro 9.7,  Model: MLMX2LL/A,   iOS 10.3.3

I'm a bit confused by your post:

You indicate that you lost all of your personal data after doing an Erase All Content & Settings, but then your last sentence states that you have now restored from a backup.

Base on that statement, it sounds like you are saying your App data was missing until you restored from the backup. Is that correct?

Yes, Gail, that's correct.  I did restore from back up because I needed that data.

However, I am not able to continue troubleshooting the camera issue until I use the iPad AFTER it's been erased and not restored from my backup.  I was told that I need to use the iPad (All Content Erased) to see whether the problems with the camera still occur.  If they do, it indicates a hardware problem.  If they don't, the problem is most likely with some software.

FYI, the iPad Camera issue is that the camera spontaneously freezes and the only way I can take another picture is to press the on/off button or completely shut down and restart the iPad.

I appreciate your reply.  I may have to phone Apple Care again - there's an open case.

Thanks
