How do I remove previous apps from Command+Tab ...

In iOS 10, when I closed an application from the Application switcher, it would remove it completely, erasing the Icon from the Command+tab Function (which I tend to use quite often).  However upon updating to iOS 11, even after closing a previous application from the Control Center by swiping up, the app icon remains in my Command+Tab queue - and it seems like I have no way of removing it. It’s quite bothersome as there are many apps I only open once to take care of some business, only to have it remain forever in my multitasking list. This doesn’t seem very efficient - when I close an app, I would like to genuinely close it. Is there any way to remove a previously used app from my Command+Tab queue?
