ipad very slow after ios9

Hi everyone, since this update, my ipad is terribly slow... my ipad is from 2012, how could i change that? Is it deliberate from apple so that I have to buy a more recent one ??? thanks for your answers

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201559

If this does not help, restore your device to factory settings. Note that this will erase the data from your device.

Take a look this Apple Support article: Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

thanks a lot for all these precious information, i'll try all this and i will keep you posted

This worked for me: go to your wifi network, click the little "i", then choose "Forget this network."  You can reconnect to the network after it disconnects.

Once I did that, my issues resolved.

I have Ipad Air 2, and this devise won't be slow. However, after upgrade to iOS9 that happens. Very slow, literally, after pressing button or typing password or even passcode half minute or more to response.

I was desperate. Somehow, the problem has gone overnight, and hasn't back till today.

Now it's back.

I've checked some options, and can see, the issue tied to network connection generally, and strictly tied to icloud functions. First, it's gone when i'm shutting wifi down. Second, it's somehow relieves after shutting down icloud services one by one.

And totally gone, when i did "forget this connection" and connect it back.

I think, the problem tied to recently founded trojan's in app store, however, apple doing it's best to resolve the issue, but still, "Cupertino, we have a problem".

Sorry for imperfect English.

I also had a slow iPad Air after updating to iOS 9.

I reset all settings and my iPad Air is back to speedy and snappy

"Reset all settings" is in Settings/General/Reset.

It does not modify your data, but you have to re-choose your wallpaper, change your code settings, network settings and so on.

Hope this helps,

Jérôme.

Thanks everyone for your help. As soon as my ipad is slow, i switch it off holding both buttons and then it works again normally for a couple of minutes... and then it's slow again... That was the first idea of thunderzzz. So, thank you, it works, but not for a long time unfortunately .

I've just reset all my settings... Let's see now how it works i keep you posted!

You are welcome.

Having done a little research on "the net" I find I am far from alone in being annoyed by IOS9s negative effect on my ipad - already nearly 5000 views of "ipad very slow after IOS9" topic. Up until very recently I've seen my iPad as one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. But IOS9 has changed this view overnight. Well not quite overnight as it has taken me a little while to implement every tip/trick I can find to return my iPad to it's previously swift, responsive state. Having done everything I can, apart from reverting to an earlier IOS, my iPad remains IRRITATINGLY slow. Apart from having to WAIT for apps to open, even Email (something which never happened before) The inbuilt music app is now a very poor relation to what it was a couple of years ago - it's now completely xxxx (add an expletive of your choice) All the artwork has gone and even the volume setting popup has disappeared (this is global - not just music app related). I'm talking about non-iTunes music from my own collection here - I'm sure the iTunes app, from which Apple make money is great, but then again maybe not. Anyways there are other issues too but I'm sure apple know about these and frankly I don't have the time to discuss. The main issue is speed, or rather lack of it. My question to Apple is......

I thought new operating systems were supposed to be better/faster/more responsive than their predecessors. This one is clearly not better. If you think it is - please tell me how because in my experience it certainly is not.

If history is any indication, there is a strong probability that performance issues are solved with iOS 9.1

If you are the adventurous type(which I am) you can take a look at Apple beta program at beta.apple.com

They have a beta of iOS 9.1. But be sure to understand the implications of installing this on your iPad first.

I'm familiar with Beta programs, they most likely will contain bugs which can be ironed out before the formal release. Pity Apple didn't spot something so blindingly basic in beta that the onscreen volume popup no longer appears after an ipad is woken from standby ! From my experience so far I might give 9.1 beta a try !

Same here. iPad worked well under iOS 7, slow under iOS 8, very very slow under iOS 9 and 9.1.

I did change few settings as recommended in few places, like this one:

https://osxdaily.com/2015/09/18/slow-ios-9-speed-up-tips

Didn't help.

Then I have reset it, including wiping all data. Situation has improved, but it is still very slow, much slower than iOS 7.

I hope that apple are listening and that future updates will improve this.

If I could, I would revert to iOS 7.

well well well... i'm a bit desperate about what i read... my ipad is still very slow, it works properly and all of a sudden, it's terribly slow... I've reset all the settings and the problem is still here...

I cross my fingers for apple to be aware of that issue and propose another update that would correct that whole mess...

Anyway, thanks everyone for your replies and your help !

Speaking of reverting...

I finally gave in to the nag popups urging me to update my vintage Jan/2013 iPad to iOS9 from iOS7. While there are some improvements in accessibility features (I am visually impaired), the performance is pretty bad: apps slow to open, slow to load URLs, Safari crashes, etc). Seems to me that Apple shouldn't push an upgrade to a device it likely knows won't handle it.

Is there a way to revert to 7.1.2?
