When the guarantee starts to run?

Hello, I have doubts about when starts the 1 year's guarantee of a macbbok. For example, if a store buys a macbook in US (at a request of a client) and send to it to uruguay, the guarantee begins to run since the macbook leaves the US store or since the customer pays the uruguayan store? or it only begins when someone registers it?

I ask this question because when I enter the serial code of a macbook I want to buy it says me the product haven't been registered, but I call the apple service and they said to me it had 288 days of guarantee. It means that someone has registered it or simple thar the macbook left the US store a few days ago?
