iTunes stops importing before the last song

In trying to import music CDs in a new Apple external SuperDrive to my MacBookPro 13", some CDs import normally, and others will stop importing, and auto-eject, before the last song is imported. Sometimes, when I retry, it is successful.

Is this a software, hardware, or media issue.

I think this was simply a defective super drive. Apple just replaced it. We realized that it wasn't so much that the last song wasn't being imported, but that if the CD being imported was lengthy, the "read head" inside the Superdrive was only ready a portion of the CD's content, and then it would eject it.
