External webcam for ipad?

Is there a way to attach an external camera on an ipad? I've read many posts that were fairly old... And best thing was a Disney camera that only took stills. Most other forums said No, there is no such thing... Is there really no camera on the market that can be attached somehow to Ipad?

If you don't find any such camera doing a google search, then probably not.

No, sorry, it's not possible but I'm curious why you need it. Care to share?

It's a pity there are no compatible accessories out there.. Basically, I'd like to skype and use face time with friends who have ipad2s...

You have an original iPad? Because the iPad 2 has a camera.

It is possible by Using the iPad Camera Connection Kit.

The info on Using iPad Camera Connector with unsupported USB devices may also be of interest.

You won't be able to use an external camera/webcam with the iPad for use with apps such as Skype For iPad (you won't be able to get the FaceTime app on the first gen iPad, that needs a built-in camera), it's no supported. You can still use the Skype app, but the people who you call won't be able to see you

Yes, Alfred, I have an ipad... Not an ipad 2  :-)   If I had an ipad2, my question would have been irrelevant, no?  Lol!

Thanks, Jim. I've read on another forum thT the camera kit didnt work, though, to connect a webcam... Guess I need to do more research :-)

Thanks, KP... That's what I figured... Was worth asking, though :-)

Yes, it would be irrelevant and that would be my followup. But there was no way for me to know since you never made clear whether you or the people with iPad 2's needed the webcam.

King Penquin gave you the info you need below. Not possible.

Thanks, Alfred. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my question... I appreciate your input.

You're welcome. Sorry the news isn't what you were hoping for.

You're most welcome.

While it is true that the camera kit does not connect webcams to iPad, there is no need to do so.  iPad2 has two (front and back) built-in webcams without connecting anything.

Do you have another question in this topic?

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but the company I work for makes cameras that connect to iPads. Right now the camera has three lenses (Microscope, telescope, and standalone camera) that might work for what you're looking for.

Here's the website: https://exolabs.com/

And the webcam-type lens you're looking for is called the 'Variable Lens': https://exolabs.com/products/accessories.html

And right now it only works in our app (search Exo Labs in the app store) and wouldn't work with Skype, but you can still export photos and videos into your camera roll.

I apologize if me posting about my company offends anyone, I just saw the question and thought it would be helpful.
