MacBook Pro always sleeps

My Macbook Pro (mid-2014, Sierra 10.12.6) always falls asleep when inactive, even when I set the energy saver to never (both on battery and power adapter). This recently started to happen, and I am not sure why. I need it to stay on to monitor my work. Does anyone know how to fix this so it won't fall asleep?
