2017 MacBook performance

Hi guys,

I really like the look of the MacBook as portability is a big deal to me however I need to know if it can handle video editing? I know most people will just say no but I wonder if anyone that has the new 2017 MacBook fully specced out could tell me how well it does. I can handle painfully long exports but jittery scrubbing and preview would be too frustrating. 

I'll be using adobe premier and making mostly short videos exporting to Instagram and YouTube. I can't find anyone online testing the i7 16gb ram version to see if it can manage, most tests are done on the cheapest model.

Any help is much appreciated!

Yup, using an internet browsing computer for processing video is a little demanding.

You might have to wait several hours or overnight on this one, vs a fraction of that time on a Macbok Pro.

Adobe Premier will not preform nearly as well as Final Cut Pro X.  (I don't expect you to switch, I am just stating that. )

Where are you located? Which country?

For exaple in US and Canada you can purchase the Apple product and return it within a set number of days, 14 days.

So you could purchase the laptop, try it out for yourself, and see if it meets or not your demands.

I kno final cut performs better but I hav access to adobe already. If I had to, I'd get final cut if it means I can use the MacBook instead of the MBP. Thanks for the link too, ive seen this video and they are using MacBook pros so just wondered if anyone has the top spec MacBook and can advise if it's worth a try or should I just go to the 13inch MBP?

I'm UK based and yea I've been thinking about trying this. Just not sure if I'm completely wasting my time by hoping the MacBook can handle anything other than browsing and YouTube.

Yea I think you hit the nail on the head! A MacBook that performs like a MBP is the dream. but when they stick the i7 badge on a £2000 machine you kind of expect something more. Might as well stick to an iPad! What can this thing do that an iPad can't anyway?

I think I'll give it ago just to settle my own curiosity and come back once I've returned it for the MBP.

I would recommend buying the new MacBook Pro because it has the thin and light form factor and is also powerful. For the same price as a fully spec'd out MacBook 12-inch, you could get a pretty strong MacBook Pro for a little extra weight.
