Restart issues when upgrade to 16 GB memory on ...

System: iMac Mid 2010, 2,93 GHz i7.

Software: macOS Sierra 10.12.6

Background: Upgrade memory to the maximum of 16 GB from 8 GB.

Problem: System boots up and recognizes 16 GB available and OK (via about this mac and system report). After a few minutes of running the system hangs, i.e. cursor locks up and then screen goes blank/black (aka cycle of death). Only way of recovering system is to power down and the power up at which point when system boots it recognizes that the system was not gracefully shutdown with a warning and the option to restart by opening previous applications or cancel and do a clean re-boot. Either option results in same "cycle of death".

Booted system in safe mode and ran "Rember" memory check, which ran clean and recognized that the system wa populated with 16 GB Memory. I've also have reset SMC and PRAM/NRAM with no joy!

I've now downgraded system to 12 GB Memory and there have been no issues to date.

Any thoughts?
