Logic Pro X not seeing/receiving PCR

Hi.

Since upgrading to OS X Sierra, Logic Pro X is not receiving midi messages from my Edirol PCR-500.

The PCR-500 lights are on when connected to the MBP via USB and I’ve also reinstalled the latest PCR-500 software at Roland.

In Audio MIDI Setup the PCR is ‘greyed out’.

Any ideas, or is it time to say ‘goodbye’ to my trusted midi controller?

Thanks in advance.

In audio midi setup - select new configuration and see if that solves your issue - make sure the 500 is plugged in when you do it

Did you upgrade to Sierra with the PCR 500 plugged in?

If so, first delete the grayed out PCR 500 in Audio/MIDI setup.

Unplug the 500's USB cable.

Shut off the computer.

Start the computer without the 500 plugged in, let it sit for a bit.. (15-20 minutes.)

Reboot and let it sit for a few minutes, then plug the 500 in.

(Other fix if the 500 is bus powered, try the above first)

If you have an "external-powered" USB hub or can borrow one, try it with the 500 into the hub.

Thanks.

PCR was not plugged in during the upgrade. Should I still delete the greyed out PCR in Audio Midi setup?

I've tried rebooting with the PCr both plugged in and also not connected.

The PCR is bus powered.

Tried a new configuration in A/M setup but nothing

I've just been to https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/pcr-500/updates_drivers/ and the drivers only go up to OS X 10.9 - I guess that's it

Yes, my Midi controller Edirol PCR-M1 -> same problem, no usb. Time to say googbye to the controller via usb I plugged the PCR into my scarlett 6i6 midi in

If you can beg, borrow or steal a Powered USB 2.0 hub it's worth a try.

Who knows... Apple's next incremental Sierra update my fix the problem, it has happened before.

Mine problem is worse. During the update from Roland page, my mac lost connection with pcr and now I can't finish the update and pcr shows me only FFF. Can anybody suggest anything? Roland doesn't answer and it seems there isn'tany kind of magic total reset. And of course osx is sierra.

Thanks for any idea

Same thing here with the PCR-800. The Roland site downloads page doesn't link to any DMG files, and clicking on the "link" to the latest driver returns you to the same page, ad infinitum. The driver I could download failed with a dialogue box saying "there was no software to be installed."

I tested the PCR-800 as a stand alone controller on my external keyboard while powered by the USB port on my 2013 MP and it didn't;t work. I tried it again with a power supply (it's a standard 12v DC positive core and those sly sellers at eBay have blurred out the output level, but any similar wall wart will work if it fits). With the power supply connected, the PCR worked as a controller. My next step is to hook up a MIDI device that has a MIDI in and out that I can use to get the PCR back into the Mac. I really don't want to buy a new controller if this one still works.

I don't know who to blame here. Apple for changing the specs that disabled the old driver, Roland for not updating the device and abandoning driver development (probably to sell newer versions to suckers) of both. I may try to run a driver for another, newer Roland device and see it that works. If it does, I'll report back here. I will also assume that since the controller still functions, hooking up a MIDI router type of device that the Mac sees will also allow the PCR to start sending and receiving data again, at least as a standard controller, of not with the PCR editor (which doesn't see the PCR either.

If anyone figures this out, please report back here. It is such a great line of desktop controllers and I hate to see them as "dead-top" doorstops.

Thanks for your posts.

SOLUTION! Disable the proprietary driver to force PCR-### to use the OS (including Sierra)...

Life saver! This works on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6
