I'm looking to buy a Series 2 Apple watch and contemplating on whether to get the regular Apple Watch Sport or a Apple Watch Nike +.

Are the software and hardware identical except for the band and the Nike + app?

So will Apple/Nike offer the app to all series 2 (or even series 1) owners?  I would buy watch now if I knew I can get the app at a later time. . . in 2 months, my impulse to buy may dissipate. 

The Nike+ Run Club app can be installed on any Apple Watch.

Note that all Apple Watch bands, including those purchased as separate accessories, can be used across all models of the same case size (38mm or 42mm), including Apple Watch Nike+.

I think you answered my question in the thread above but I wanted to double confirm. Apple Watch 2 Nike has 2 dedicated watch faces as well as the standard watch faces. Therefore if I would get additional straps it would be looking like the apple watch 2 sport if I am not using the Nike watch face. Since I am interested to use this watch for running then waiting for Nike version is better as this watch has some dedicated features I can't get if I buy the sports version and install the Nike app.

What do you (or more specifically Apple/Nike) exactly mean when they say "closer integration with the Nike+ Run Club app"?

My assumption is because of the two Nike+ proprietary watch faces that integrate the activity data and a direct integration of nike+ run club.
