External Hard Drive became Read Only

After updating to macOS Sierra on Macbook Pro (Retina 13", Early 2015), my Toshiba External Hard Drive became Read Only.

Had to update NTFS from here: https://www.tuxera.com/ntfs-drives-and-macos-sierra/ and Restart. Working fine now.

That is because your external hard drive is formatted NTFS for Windows computers and you were running a third party utility with your old operating system that allowed your Mac to use the Windows formatted drive

When you upgraded your operating system to Sierra you failed to also update the third party utility. Now that you have done so it is working. Unless you have a need to use that external disk on a Windows computer you should copy off the data and format it for your Mac computer, thereby eliminating the need for the third party utility work-around.

Thanks Bob, I do use both Mac & Windows PC's, so will have to keep it this way until I get my home cloud setup. But I guess that would need the NTFS updates as well.

Go to "Get Info" on Mac. Click on the little lock on the bottom right hand corner. Enter you password. Then add your self using the "+" for read and write. Apple foe some reason does'nt want people to store their files on backup drives

I have also updated to Mac Sierra (previously Lion) and my external WD was connected to the Mac when updated.  Now it shows up but said it has RAID errors and all my photos are not showing up on that drive.  Is it fixable?  How do I fix it? am not really techy. please help.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved and from last year, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

I have a Toshiba Canvio 1TB and all I needed was to download this Tuxera NTFS for Mac OS X El Capitan or Sierra and it's now working perfectly. https://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=4008404

I think that was established a year ago when this thread was original started. My post above remains as my advice to you.
