Macbook Pro Popping Sound: The Worst Experience...

Here I am with a MacBook Pro with TouchBar that I bought for Christmas and arrived January of this year. And yes, this laptop has the same issues described here and recorded here.

My story has one the worst time-wasting, tiring and frustrating experiences with Apple support ever existed. I feel like I was stabbed in the back.

To start with, I did my first trip to the Apple Retail in Buchanan Street (I’m from Glasgow, Scotland) and was happy leaving them my computer for a couple of days so they can repair it. Unfortunately, they couldn’t “reproduce the issue” so I was given it back (still broken).

I called Apple Support and it was just an awful experience, they bounced me around like a ball hitting different walls. After extremely-long waiting calls I was advised to go back to the Buchanan store, then the manager ended up “asking me to leave” because… Surprise! It was 7:30pm and time ran out. And just to clarify, I followed every single step they told me to.

Later, I was advised to go another Apple Retail in Braehead “for a second opinion” and what was the result? 4 more days without the laptop and still with the issue, “We cannot reproduce it, sorry”.

And again, calling Apple Support to find a solution, this time I asked for a replacement, and here goes me following everything as they told me to (like a dumb, honestly): I was asked to go back to the Buchanan retail to certify the issue and what was their diagnosis? “The computer runs with excepted behaviour” (I guess I’m the crazy one then, who would spend more than 4 weeks trying to tackle this?).

Again, phoning Apple Support and they response was: The replacement is refused because the issue “cannot be certified”.

In conclusion: No Repair, No Refund and certainty No Replacement. I’ve followed every single step as I was told and this was the result.

I’m a student and I certainly value every single penny I spend, having made a considerable investment in this I was expecting to receive a minimum of empathy, but now I’ve been left alone with a defective computer.

So here I am using my last energies to write this entry, if there is someone from Apple Support with the minimum of sympathy I’ll be glad to receive your help. In the meantime, I’ll be exerting my rights as an EU consumer, starting with a complain letter for faulty goods.

Hi,

How do you expect them to fix an issue they cannot corroborate/hear? Go to the Apple Store earlier in the day, with an appointment, and reproduce the issue for them. Then something should get done.

It is not my problem if they don't have the appropriate equipment to test it, I just need an ear. And just to clarify, I showed them the Issue, 6 times to be exact.

Sorry, but apparently it is your problem. Any type of service provider, like an auto repair shop, will likely need to see/hear/experience the issue in order to diagnose/repair it.

I'm sure all they'll need is an ear too, once you reproduce the issue for them.

First of all, this is a community of Apple users like you. We are not Apple employees.

So you won't reach anyone from Apple Support.

When does this popping sound happen? How often does this happen?

I would make a video recording (with audio) of the sound and what you do when this happens.

So you could show this to the Apple Support and it could make it easier for them to reproduce the issue.

I've recorded the issue by myself here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIjJ47Jtkgc

It's interesting that the issue occurs twice when we actually see you touching the Mac, and the third time we can't see your hands.

Durimg First and third time I trigger it with my hand, the second time is completely random

It was hard for me to see. How did you trigger it with your hand?

If you haven't yet tried it, I would reset the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295.

While the video might help convince them, it's always better to see the issue in person. If it happened three times in four minutes, you should easily be able to reproduce it in a 15 minute "genius" bar appointment.

I could not tell which noise you were complaining about.

Where on the total 4:06 timeline do the noises occur?

Do you think these noises are coming from the internal speakers, or from somewhere else? (if speakers, you should be able to wire them onto another device.)

With the slightest touch on the lid

I've been 5 times already there, they can't. SMC does not solve it.

The exact time is marked on the video description since I uploaded it. They appear to come from the case/lid, I cannot confirm it.

"they can't?" What about you reproducing it in front of them? Like I said "If it happened three times in four minutes, you should easily be able to reproduce it in a 15 minute "genius" bar appointment." Or can't you make it happen even once in 15 minutes in front of them?

Does it happen when you're running on battery power or only on power adapter?
