How much storage do I need

I'm having issues with backing up my iPhone to my Mac, long story, I would like to know how much storage I should have before I attempt a back up? I have a 64GB iPhone 6 I have about 9GB free on the iPhone.

It depends on a lot of things, for example, if your photo library uses 30 GB and you use iCloud photo library it won't need any space to backup photos but if you don't use iCloud photo library it will need 30 GB to back up your photos.

You can, however, manage what you backup and see how much space it will take at Settings ➔ Apple ID(Top) ➔ iCloud ➔ Storage ➔ iCloud ➔ Manage Storage ➔ Backups ➔ This Device
