Hello,

Try to sign out of your iCloud account and log in once again.

Make sure you meet all the requirements below in order to activate it and use it properly.

From Apple's Support article:

Make sure that your devices are set up as follows:

  • Your Mac has Bluetooth turned on.
  • Your Mac has Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Your Mac and Apple Watch are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then go to General > Apple ID.
  • Your Apple Watch is using a passcode.
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then tap Passcode.
  • Your Mac isn't using Internet Sharing.
  • Your Mac has ”Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac” selected in Security & Privacy preferences.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then select the General tab.

Regards,

Hi,

Spent a long time trying to get this working again including for restore on everything apart from my 2015 MacBook Pro and put it to rest however recent the latest version of macOS is 10.12.6. fixed it !! . Long may it continue , found it worked very intermittently since launch to be fair .

I am getting a similar issue but it gives me an error stating my watch needs to be signed into iCloud.

  • My watchOS has been recently updated to os version 3.2.3.
  • All my settings on my iPhone/Mac/Watch are all lined up with the above recommendations.
  • I updated Sierra 10.12.6 last night
  • I tried unpairing my watch and pairing it again.
  • I signed out of iCloud on all of my devices and signed in again.

...Still not working. This stopped working for me last week.

Update September 2017 >>>
I had this issue when my Mac asked me to update my password etc, it took me 3 days to try all the solutions that have been recommended, none worked for me and I gave up. However, in a very last minute idea I decided to Shutdown all devices, Watch, MacBook and iPhone, after a 30seconds I switched all 3 back on in no particular order and low and behold the millionth attempt to set up "Unlock your Apple Watch to Unlock your Mac" worked
I wanted to share this idea as it has driven me insane for days!
