Delete old Apple ID

I have an old Apple ID that has no apps associated with it.  However, since it is the primary email associated with the account, I cannot use that email on another Apple ID account.  How can I delete the old Apple ID so that I can free this personal email up to be associated with a current/active Apple ID account?  Currently using a corporate email as Apple ID as work around for last 5 years, but need to reclaim usage of my personal email (it is essentially held captive on this old non-active account).

You can contact Apple Support (ACCOUNT SECURITY SUPPORT) to see if they can help, unless the Apple ID in question ends in @me, @mac, or @iCloud.com. Apple domain Apple IDs cannot be changed in any way.

If the email ends in one of those domain names, then you can continue to use the current Apple ID (you can change the Apple email address to a new personal one if you wish), and then set up Family Sharing with yourself so that you can access the purchases made with the old Apple ID:
