Problems changing Mail account from POP to IMAP

Hi

I've been trying to change a POP account to IMAP using the usual method of backing up the account first and then deleting it in Mail. I then attempt to add a Mail Account. Since Mail apparently defaults to POP, on the New Account page I entered my name, e-mail address and gave a false password to force it to allow me to enter the settings manually (otherwise it would have defaulted to  POP settings).

I then manually enter the correct IMAP account settings and click on "Sign in." I have an "Account already exists" response which is OK because my Provider (Virginmedia) support POP3 and IMAP4 as standard.

Clicking Next takes me to the final screen of "Select apps you want to use with this account". I select Mail and then click Done. This leads to an endless loop back to the "Select apps" page and click Next, Next, Next ........ and the new Account is not added to Mail.

Any help would be really appreciated.
