Warranty outside US

Hi! For my birthday, I was given an Iphone 5 unlocked bought in US for my birthday. The problem is that I live in Italy. Does Apple give a 1year warranty outside US? Or shall I return the product to US if something goes wrong? Thanks for your help!

It should only be in the USA, I think that in Europe it does not work that way.
