I have challenges in updating iTunes on my iphone 6 . Aftera few hours of downloading it registers an error message. I have tried going through the iphone but without succeeding.

Is the problem only with the iTunes Store App? What is the error message you receive?

The iTunes app on your phone will be updated as necessary when IOS is updated. Do you mean that you're trying to update iOS?
