OSX Mail Inbox

Mail is working fine.

The problem is that the viewing window, showing a list of my incoming messages in "classic" view, does not correctly show whether or not a message has an attachment.

This suddenly starting happening in October 2016.

The message is shown, but the column with the paperclip heading is empty. Yet there is an attachment.

See screenshot. The message from "OS Leisure shop" has an attachment. They refer to it in the header, and it's there in the message. But the space under the "paperclip" icon in the viewer window is blank.

I find it useful to know which messages in my inbox have attachments - for example when I'm trying to discover who sent me a file.

Any ideas how to get this "paperclip" column working again?

This has been an issue for a few of us since the upgrade to Sierra, I lost the paperclick around Sept 2016 in the Inbox completely but for Sent it has been intermittent, some show the clip and others don't.

This is another post re issue https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7875939

I still use a POP account so not sure if that's behind it but still keep hoping Apple will fix. The consequence for me on not having the clip for messages containing images is that the "Remove attachments" menu item is now greyed out!

Let's be sure you are fully updated. Your info is posted as 10.12.1.

Under “About this Mac” are you running the latest version of Sierra? You should see 10.12.6. If not, download and run the combo updater.

Download macOS Sierra 10.12.6 Combo Update

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1931

If you are updated, if you switch from Classic view to Preview Pane on right, do you see the attachment icon?

Hello - Yes I am on MacOSX Sierra 10.12.6, my profile info had not been updated and I updated it just now. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yes - the paperclip is shown in the preview pane, but not in the columns of the message list. See attached image.

You can right click on drop down arrow on paper clip in mail application and click on save all .

Screen Shot 2017-08-07 at 11.06.10 PM.png

A pop - up window appears .

In where section , click on drop down arrow and can select the options from there and finally click on save .

My question is about how I can see the paperclip icon on the message inbox view. Please see my first post. I want to get the paperclip to be visible on the message inbox view.

if you open mail app and set as classic view , select a mail in inbox the paper clip will not show ( written text in the screen shot ) , but in the bottom you can hover the cursor on horizontal divider line , there paper clip that is invisible will appear .

Not true…

It will not show in the condition if the attachment that is send by the sender is saved in downloads or in else location  ( depends in what format the attachment is sent ) .

Generally i get mails that have attachments , and that are opened and saved .

Same is applicable with the OP , he has downloaded the attachment , that's why paper clip is not showing .

First, under View > Columns in the Menu bar, deselect Attachments. Now add it back. Does that help?

If no, let's try dragging the Attachment column to the far left before From column. To drag, click and hold on the header with the paperclip. (you should see the hand icon) While holding drag the column over. You might need to resize some columns after moving.

Still not fixed...

With Mail quit, go to the User's Library/Containers folder.

Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the trash.

Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar

Empty the Trash

Open Mail.

You might have to reset several of Mail's preferences.

Report back. This is an unusual quirk so not sure where the corruption is located.

1. That's not what you said.

2. That's not what the OP said.

3. That doesn't happen for me with Mail.

Could you give an example of what format would be sent to the downloads folder? That's never happened for me in 30 years.

@dianeoforegon

Good suggestions.

I have already given an real example screen shot in the above post , received an attachment from my business Client via mail ( some drawing of grid plate was there and the format was .DWG ) .

Then you have the same problem as the OP.

No , I am not having any problems in mail , getting mails and opening the attachments .

Yes you are, the paperclip doesn't show as it does in my screenshot.
