Where did you download the music from ? An Apple Music subscription (assuming that's what you have) gives you free downloads from Apple Music, it does not give you free downloads from the iTunes Store - Apple Music and the iTunes Store are two separate things, Apple Music is effectively a rental (end the subscription and you lose access to anything downloaded from it), the iTunes Store lets you buy and keep music.
