Lag when I connect an external monitor to mpb

When connecting external monitor to my mbp it starts to lag alot. Even just facebook on a browser lags. Everything works fine when I use only the macbook - but when I plug in an external monitor (via thunderbolt) it lags, on occasion so much that I barely can't use it. Think of it as waves of super-lag. kernel_task is very busy. Shutting off+turning on computer doesn't help. I have space on the hd, I don't have a crowded dock or desk. It's updated. I have two screens plugged in, but it's the same with just one.

I understand you are having issues with lagging when one or two external monitors are attached to your MacBook Pro.  The resource below provides some troubleshooting steps to try.  Just connect one display at a time to test.   

What external display(s) are you connecting to?
Are you using just a cable or are you using adapters?
Have you tried a different cable or adapter?
Have you tried a different connection (ie. HDMI) if available?
Are you extending or mirroring your computer's desktop or are you in clamshell mode?
Do you have any issues connecting the same display to a different computer?


Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac

...restart your Mac in safe mode to reset the display resolution to defaults.

If starting in safe mode doesn't resolve the issue, reset your Mac's NVRAM and SMC to reset the video ports on your Mac to their defaults.

I've found the solution. Cleaning of the fans from dust made the trick! No more kernel_task going through the roof. Just youtube how to, or turn your computer in to someone who knows how to.
