How can upgrade my iPad 2 to iOS 10.3.1

Hi, I have an iPad 2 64g 3g and I'm trying to upgrade to iOS 10.3.1 but the option doesn´t appear.

What can I do to upgrade?

The current operative system is iOS 9.3.5

Thanks.

You can't update the iPad 2 any further than iOS 9.3.5.

You can't update the iPad 2 any further than iOS 9.3.5.

You can't. iOS 9 was the last available for the iPad 2.

The iPad 2, 3 and 1st generation iPad Mini are all ineligible and excluded from upgrading to iOS 10.

They all share similar hardware architectures and a less powerful 1.0 Ghz CPU that Apple has deemed insufficiently powerful enough to even run the basic, barebones features of iOS 10.

Why would you want to upgrade, anyways?

Since iOS 8, older iPad models such as the iPad 2, 3 and 4 have only been getting the most basic of iOS features.

Older iPad users get none of the newest and coolest cutting edge features that newer model iDevices, with better hardware specs, can handle with more aplomb.

Plus, these are only two supported models left that use the much outdated 30 pin dock connector.

The same iPad 2 users who whined and moaned and groaned that both iOS 8 and 9 slowed down the performance of their iPad 2 models would come back, once again, in angry droves, with even more complaints of slowdowns under iOS 10.

Plus, the initial release of iOS 10, at the moment, seems riddled with bugs and undocumented feature omissions and problematic new App releases that current iOS upgraders are, STILL, currently, struggling with.

FYI,

Just because your iPad 2 is no longer able to upgrade to the latest iOS doesn't mean your iPad 2 is suddenly useless.

Your iPad 2 will work as it always has and the apps you have installed on it will continue to update and receive some level of app updates relevent to your current iOS.

My iPad 2 is STILL receiving app updates on a regular basis.

I expect to stil get app updates for the remainder of 2017.

Whatever the last supported app version end up on my iPad 2, they will still work and function as they always have.

You have had four years of iOS upgrades and updates.

Your iPad 2 will still do everything it does now and you will, get, at least, another full year, perhaps two, if you decide you want to wait longer to get a new or newer iPad model.

Your iPad 2 is NOT, suddenly,  becoming obsolete or useless.

So, your options are really keep using your iPad 2 or purchase a new iPad if you feel you need or want to.

Your current iPad 2 will still work and continue to receive app updates for some time to come.

Good Luck to You!

Hi

If you can sell & update ipad.

Cheers

Brian

Why upgrade? Can't access Apple Store unless upgraded to 10.3 that's why!!

Try reading the thread before posting.

Jeanie L provides a reason why an upgrade is required. The original thread was not thorough enough as to why the party wanted the upgrade. I normally do not participate in forums because individuals like yourself have nothing constructive to contribute. You just want to clutter up this thread worthless dribble. You just like to hear your own voice.

Did you seriously just register in order to criticize someone? Speaking of having nothing constructive to contribute....

The Apple Store app is just a shortcut to the actual Apple merchandise/accessories store and does NOT affect the access to the iOS App Store. Two different stores.

You can still access the actual Apple merchandise/accessories store from any iOS supported web browser here.

Reading what's already posted is required so as no not waste everyone else's time.  The "reason" is irrelevant since the iPad 2 CAN"T be updated to 10.x due to hardware restrictions. You would know that if you weren't so entitled that  you didn't have to read.

All your points are basically true. However i can not install Swift Playground unless I have iOS 10.3.

i doubt that it has any dependencies within 10.3 , but guess it was only validated against 10.3.

the same happens with lots of 3rd party apps.

ive written compilers ,  it might be a little slower without the latest processor but it should still work.

Swift programming and Swift Playgrounds is an iOS 10 and later programming language.

So, it makes perfect sense that it does NOT run on older hardware that does not support the Swift code.

Besides, as of iOS 11, all older iDevices that run on 32-bit hardware architectures, like the iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen Mini, as well as any 32 bit hardware iPhones/iPod Touches, are, now, no longer supported and have been rendered obsolete.

The iPad 2 is, especially, hardware challenged with a under clocked 1.0 Ghz (clocked down to 800 Mhz) CPU, inferior GPU (non-retina display) and has only a measly 512 MBs of RAM.

This is why Apple introduced the new, lower cost 2017 iPad 5 model, in April.

Apple is trying to get older iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen Mini iPad users to upgrade to more modern iPad hardware to use with the newly launched iOS 11, which rendered all older 32 bit iDevices obsolete.

Good Luck to You!
