iMac Crashing & Intermittent Vertical Blue ...

For the past several months I have had 2 things occurring - Related?  I don't know.

1. Vertical blue line appears and hangs there for a while and then goes away. Then it appears again. And then it goes away again. It sits about 3/4 to the right-side of the screen (moving left to right). It sits on top of all other display information, programs, screens and runs the full top-to-bottom of the screen. I have screen shots of it.

2. My iMac late 2015 running Sierra 10.12.6 crashes randomly and has to be restarted. Sometimes I am chatting with a repair person (ironic but frustrating because then I have to restart the session with someone new) or if it is "sleeping" when I am away from it. I have saved the reports from the past several months. "Dan" at Apple says the reports most likely won't give any helpful information. He suggested I run the system in "Safe" mode for a while to see if anything is different.

The blue line showed up immediately once I rebooted in safe mode.

Any thoughts?

Best idea is probably to take it in to an actual Apple Store location and have them take a look. If you want to diagnose at home though, try connecting to an external monitor. If you still have the problem, you'll know it's a software issue. Otherwise, you'll know it's hardware.

I agree with 2299, please take it to your local Apple store. If you have AppleCare or if the computer is less than 1 year old then any repairs will be at Apple's expense.
