upgrade MacBook Pro 5,3 logic board from 2.66&n...

Hello,

Recently my Macbook pro has been diagnosed with a bad logic board. i'll spare you the details of all the symptoms and just say that I already decided i should just buy a "new" logic board to fix the issue. Haven't made a purchase yet though.

I currently have the following installed...

2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

  SSD hard drive

when i check out the general specs for this model it only shows logic boards with processor up to 2.8GHz

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) - Technical Specifications

question is, i know there's a 3.06 GHz logic board available that might work with this model, but i can't find anything confirming this type of upgrade. I'm mostly worried about overheating or possibly another issue i wouldn't discover until performing the upgrade. the price difference isn't that much since but i figure this small upgrade will make the difference in performance to keep this laptop working well for a while longer.

Hi,

That machine was, in fact, produced as a 3.06 Built to Order option, so it would seem that it should work. Something to consider, however, is that it's not a whole lot faster than the 2.66. See pics:

So if there is no return option on the logic board, then you'll have to weigh the modest benefits of the 3.06 against the risk of it not working correctly.
