Apple Watch Speaker Volume Low

The sound coming out of my Apple Watch during a phone conversation is very low even though the slider is set to maximum.  Is anyone else experiencing this ?

Yes. I have the same problem. I nearly have to hold the watch up to my ear to hear someone correctly. I'm wondering if I need to return this to Apple or if this sound level is normal. I've watched youtube videos comparing the sound level to iPhones on speaker and it seems those people only have a slight, but noticeable, difference in the volume level compared to the phones. Mine is incredibly different. Sometimes its hard to understand the person at all. I would never be able to use this feature in a restaurant or really even outdoors. I'm wondering if I have a faulty device.

I actually returned my launch day apple watch sport to the Apple Store and they replaced my watch (just the face unit, not the band) in about 5-7 days. However, I tested the Watch by calling my mom and used the replacement Watch speakerphone exclusively as I had with the original and I can't say I noticed too much of a difference. I believe the Apple Watch 1st gen. speakerphone is just woefully underpowered. Besides that and the slow loading of App data at times, I don't have too much of a complaint about it.

Did the new one have better sound?

 

Both my wife and I have Apple watches now and the voice call volume is so low you sometimes have to hold it up to your ear to understand, even in a very quiet environment. I'd love if the feature worked better so I could work and type on my computer without a headset or holding the phone to my ear at the same time.

me too, the same problem with same version 2.1 and pair with iPhone 6+ iOS 9.0.2

I also had the speaker from my Apple Watch go completely silent; no matter if I tried to pair again, or anything else, the speaker did not emit any sound. I had the watch replaced under warranty. The same thing happened again recently, and I was able to tie it to something I did.

 

I wore my Apple Watch in salt water (pool), and the sound was lost the next day. So I figure that the water that seeped inside the speaker enclosure had evaporated, but the salt stayed which immobilized the tiny cone. I just let my watch sit in warm water (warm enough to dissolve salt) for about 10 minutes, and let it dry. Next day, the sound was super powerful once again!

 

I believe that anyone who sweats a lot, and that sweat bead into the speaker enclosure, might obstruct the speaker movement. I would urge people with low/no sound on the Apple Watch to try this trick, and let me know if it worked for you!

Within the Important handling information in the Apple Watch User Guide, Apple advises that the watch should be cleaned after coming into contact with liquids other than fresh water, including if it comes into contact with salt water.

 

Apple also advises against submerging the watch in water for long periods of time.
