MacBook Pro 2016 and later

Hi All,

This is just a post for the awareness of the MacBook Pro (late 2016 and later) community.  After extensive trial and error and lengthy conversations with Apple and their engineering team, I have discovered some issues with displaying any image at 60hz via USB-C to HDMI adapters.  It turns out that the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and any USB-C adapter that does not specify 4K 60hz will not allow a 60hz refresh rate regardless of the resolution if plugged into a 4K TV.  For example, scaling down to 1080p on a 4K TV will not enable 60hz even on adapters that support 1080p 60hz.  Apparently, 1080p 60hz is only supported if the max resolution of the TV is 1080p.

So for simplicity sake, only buy a USB-C to HDMI adapters that specifically support 4K 60hz and you will have all your bases covered.  Unfortunately, Apple does not currently make any USB-C to HDMI adapters that support 4K 60hz.  This means Third-party adapters are the only option.  Furthermore, after buying a bunch of adapters I have found that only a few adapters truly support 4K 60hz over HDMI.  The following are a list of some of the adapters that I have tested including the ones that do not support 4K 60 Hz.  It's not an extensive list but at least a starting point.
