iTunes refuses to stream video

iTunes 12.7.0.166 (latest) macOS 10.12.6 (latest) MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)

Coincidental to updating to 12.7, iTunes now refuses to stream video. Just sits motionless with a black screen. Not unresponsive, but the transport simply will not make progress or even display still frames. In earlier versions of iTunes, I would on occasion have video freeze this way mid-playback and require rebooting the computer to get it back again (video driver issue?).

It is _not_ a bandwidth issue. If I watch the network activity, it is not even trying.

I can, of course, download the shows and the downloaded shows play back fine, but that's kind of a PITA and requires a few minutes of waiting between shows for the downloads to finish. It won't even start playing a partially downloaded show.

It takes less than a few minutes to download a typical HD TV episode and the bandwidth while doing so saturates the WiFi interface - so, really, not a bandwidth issue.

Same problem if I use 1GB wired ethernet (and I have 1GB internet service, although Apple's end isn't often quite fast enough to saturate that single stream). So it seems it is either not trying to or is getting stuck trying to transfer the data when, but only when, streaming. SD doesn't work either (nor would that be an acceptable workaround).

Other devices including my iPhone and Apple TV work fine.
