iMessage problem on iPad 2

Hello, I've been having a problem signing in to iMessage on one of my three Apple devices. I can use it on my      Mac Pro, and my iPad 4, but I can't use it on my iPad 2.

 

i try to sign in through the settings for messages and then it takes me to safari for verification. I login successfully and get the six digit code to enter and it brings up my account, but it doesn't solve the login issue when I go back to the app. It just repeats the same prompt to do it all over again. I've tried logging out on my Mac Pro and logging back in with no luck. I've restarted the iPad also with no change, I've logged out of my iCloud and back in with no luck either. When I open the app I can see all my previous messages in the background, behind the message for me to sign in, and it requires email verification, which takes me to safari to do the process successfully...still no go.

 

What do I need to do here? Thanks for some help on this frustrating problem.
