Using Sierra 10.12.6 and Time Machine Getting S...

iMac Using Sierra 10.12.6 and Time Machine Getting Stalled when I click on the choice of a document among choice of older versions. The only way to recover is to turn the power to my iMac off and restart. My iMac is connected to Seagate Backup Plus with 1 TB and connected with USB to iMac. I've checked and all my Apple software is up to date. This is a new problem, which did not occur with previous versions of OS. However, Time Machine has run slower with USB that with Firewire connection to a previous portable storage disk.

I'm not trying to restore a file. I'm trying to find a document that has been saved and compare it to the current version. but when I scroll the saved documents Time Machine hangs up, or even if I click on the saved document on the screen to scroll just that document TM hangs up.
